Meet the team: Tomás

Allow us to introduce you to one of our iOS developers, Tomás

Read on to get to know the Zoobe team better. Find out lots of interesting things that happen at Zoobe and learn all about the role of our iOS developers at Zoobe.

Tomás came all the way from Argentina to Europe. He is now living in Berlin and working for Zoobe.

Tomás, how would you describe yourself?

That is actually a tricky question. I am an honest and friendly person who is always in a good mood. I am also a passionate traveler and consider myself a curious person who is also interested in any kind of sports!

Why did you start working at Zoobe?

First I was working as a web developer for a web company in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Three and a half years later I quit my job and sold my car to travel to Europe. Going to Europe has always been my dream and because I own an Argentinian and Spanish passport I can travel a lot without having problems getting a visa. Well, after quitting my job I traveled through Spain, Italy, France and Greece. It was a breathtaking trip that I will never forget! As you can probably imagine, I ran out of money at some point. When I was on an excursion on the vulcano Etna I met a couple which adviced me to go to Berlin to find a job there. And so I did. I was looking on the net for jobs in Berlin where I could code for iOS and iPhone and finally I found a job offer from Zoobe, I immediately applied. The job interview went very well, so I started to work in December 2014.

What exactly is your job at Zoobe?

I am an iOS developer and together with Andreas and Shady we are creating the new features for the iOS app. So normally when I come to the office I turn on my Mac and open Trello. There I find the tasks I need to solve. Next, I open my x-code and start coding in 'objective c' to solve my tasks. After that is done I create a pull request for Andreas and Shady in order to get a review from them so  they can merge it to the mother branch. When all the tasks and testings are done we submit the new vesion to the App Store.

What is special to you about working at Zoobe?

The international, relaxing and fun environment is amazing. I also get a mass of challenges I really like to solve, there is always something new coming up! For example, at the moment we are working on restructuring the app to a bottom tab navigation.
The area were Zoobe is located is legit. Here, in the heart of Berlin, there are lots of nice cafés, bars and restaurants to eat with work mates.

What are you passionate about?

I am obsessed with any kind of sports! My favourite sports are football and skiing. I also practice tennis, golf and running. When I need some time to  myself I enjoy reading a lot too. I also love going out with my friends, having some drinks and going out dancing.
Traveling is another thing I am extremely passionate about, I wish I could explore every country in the world!

What is your imagination of perfect holidays?

Traveling is the most important fact I combine with holidays. I would love to go far away to a small but beautiful and colourful island. All the people I love are with me on this island and the atmosphere is relaxed and smooth. Everyone is happy and peaceful and the focus is on having a fun and pleasant time!

What amazing experiences have you made in your life that you never forget?

This trip! Coming to Europe has been one of the best decisions I have made so far in my life. Traveling alone has tought me a lot and I have also made many new friends from all over the world, this is wonderful! I will never forget the opportunity I got by having two citizenships, my Spanish passport in addition to my Argentinian is a gift! It opened many doors for me during my trip.
Also working in another country and learning another language are awesome experiences everyone should go through at least once, it is so different from the everyday life in the home country. The same is true for playing football in a German team, I am just collecting new memories wherever I go or whatever I do.

What do you want to achieve in life?

One day I would love to have my own company. I can imagine having my own team and working on exactly what I want. By the time I want to start a family and travel more and explore more countries.

A big thanks to Tomás for giving us an idea about him, his work and his life!
