Eve talks: 7 tips for the best Oktoberfest ever

Oktoberfest is just around the corner and you better get ready for the festival of the year. Take a good night sleep before, grab your phone, your party mood and prepare to enjoy every second of it.

Before you get there, you have to know what to expect. Just as you, annually, over 6 million people attend the München festival willing to enjoy the German traditions. This is the place to be for 16 days every fall. So our Bavarian Eve is here to give you some advices on what to have in mind when heading for Oktoberfest, the world’s largest fair.

1. Dress properly

Before you walk out the door, think of what you’ll be wearing. The traditional outfit for guys is lederhosen and for girls it’s the famous dirndl - the pretty Bavarian dress which comes in many colours with varying skirt lengths. Of course, the outfit is accompanied by the sexy braids. Oh, and get some comfy shoes since you’ll be staying there all day long.

2. Know the clothes’ meaning

Whether you are a man and want to know which woman is available for flirting or you are a girl and you want to know how to dress, you need to be aware of the dirndl’s meaning. If a woman wears a bow over her dirndl on her left side it means she's available; if it's on the right side, she's taken and if it's in the front, she's a virgin.

3. Get there in time

If you think of going there “early” around lunch, think again. It looks like every year you need to be there earlier than the year before. Even more, if you want to attend weekends fun, have knowledge of the fact that people start coming around 6am in order to get it.

When you are finally in, grab a table as quick as you can and wait for the first beer which will probably arrive around 9am on weekends and 10am during weekdays.

4. Prepare for beer… a lot of beer

Regularly, 7.5 million of liters are being consumed during Oktoberfest so get ready to see beer everywhere around. Though, you don’t want to overestimate your power of drinking. Keep in mind that Oktoberfest’s beer has more alcohol and sugar than the regular German beer. Drink with moderation and enjoy the festival at its best. You wouldn’t like to miss the fun, wouldn’t you?

5. Forget eating salads or healthy food

While drinking beer, you need rich food and proteins, right? Well, you’ll find them all: Hendl (chicken), Schweinebraten (roast pork), Schweinshaxe (grilled ham hock), Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick) and Würstl (sausages).

You can also find Brezeln (pretzel), Knödel (potato or bread dumplings), Käsespätzle (cheese noodles), Reiberdatschi (potato pancakes), Sauerkraut or Rotkohl/Blaukraut (red cabbage) but also Bavarian delicacies as Obatzda (a spiced cheese-butter spread) and Weisswurst (a white sausage).

Even though Bavarian Eve is thin, she loves food and she adores Oktoberfest’s delights.

6. Don’t lose your phone… or how else will you send Zoobe messages to your friends?

Thinking of the amount of drinking that goes on during Oktoberfest, it's no surprise  that certain things would get lost. Figures such as 1,300 items of clothing, more than 1,000 identity cards, over 400  keys and 390 mobile phones were lost just during one Oktoberfest edition. Even kids were lost. So keep your belongings safe and take pictures because you will want to have clear memories of all these.

7. Friends… don’t forget your friends home

Probably the most important advice is to have your friends alongside, because nothing is better than enjoying happy moments with the ones you love. Now that you have Eve’s advices, you are ready to enjoy Oktoberfest.
